Carrol Retha Sandage

Redmond, Oregon Carrol Retha Sandage, was born on July 7, 1937 to Dallas Buckman and Retha Bundock Buckman in Sacramento, California. She was the third of four born in this family and the only daughter/sister. Carrol passed away on December 13, 2015 in Redmond, Oregon. Carrol was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leroy, her father Dallas Buckman, her mother Retha Buckman and all 3 of her brothers. Carrol received her education from Elk Grove High School. While she was attending Elk Grove H.S. she met and fell in love with Leroy Eldon Sandage her freshman year, they were High School sweethearts. Carrol and Leroy married on June 19, 1954 in San Diego, California. They made their life together in multiple places in California before moving their family to Hillsboro, Oregon in 1966 and in 1970 they moved to Banks/Manning, Oregon where they raised all 9 kids and made Banks their final hometown. Carrol eventually moved to Redmond in 2013 due to health reasons. Carrol was a loving, strong willed, straight to the point, no nonsense stay at home mother of 9 kids, grandmother and great grandmother to many. However in the 70s she worked at Birds Eye Canary in Forest Grove, OR and Tektronix in North Plains, OR. She also worked for Intel in Hillsboro, OR in the 80s. Eventually she became a bartender at Balm Grove in Gales Creek where she found the love of bartending and socialism. She made many friends that became family to her. Carrol eventually retired from Balm Grove when they closed. Carrol loved having her kids and their kids and their kids kids and their friends around, she would never shut the door on someone who was in need of a place to stay. She would make sure they had something to eat and a warm place to stay. Carrol and Leroy had so much love to give that they even took custody of their granddaughter Jennessa Ann Sandage and raised her until Carrols health would no longer allow it. She loved being outside and took so much pride in planting her flowers and maintaining them. Anyone who knew Carrol knew she would be outside watering her flowers and most likely barefoot whether it be raining, snowing or sunshining. Carrols greatest accomplishments and pride was all of her children, grand children and great grand children. She was truly the Matriarch of OUR family. She will be greatly missed among all of her family and friends. Carrol is survived by her 9 children Rick Sandage of Eugene,OR Terry Kellar and Randy of Banks, OR Debbie and Keith Kemper of Buxton, OR Donna Hansel of Forest Grove,OR Michael and Cindy Sandage of Vernonia,OR Rhonda Sandage of Redmond,OR Robert and Karen Sandage of Santa Maria, Ca, Christy Hudson of Haxton, Co , Mark Sandage of Banks,OR her sister in law Carolyn Sue VanVleck of Cornelius, OR and 25 grandkids and 48 great grandkids. A Celebration of Carrols life will be on Sunday, June 19, 2016, in Izee, OR where she and the family love to go camping and hunting.
