Edwin Ed Francis Brown

Edwin F. Brown was on born September 16, 1924 and passed away with family by his side on September 19, 2013; he was 89 years old. Edwin (Ed) was born in Eugene, Oregon to Homer Francis Brown and Lexie M. (Nestle) Brown. His family moved to Central Oregon where Ed attended school in Cloverdale until he enlisted in the Navy. Ed proudly served our country during World War II and received the Victory Metal. During Eds service he met the love of his life Catherine (Kay) Nixon, from Arcadia, Missouri, who was also serving in the Navy. They married June 9, 1945 and remained happily together for 68 years. After the Navy, the couple moved to the Cloverdale community to take over the family farm. Ed and Kay farmed potatoes, hay, wheat and dedicated their life to getting their hands dirty and starting a family. The couple had four beautiful children. Ed loved his community and showed his support by volunteering for the Sisters rodeo, he was also a Member of the Farm Bureau and the school board. Ed was the true definition of what it means to be salt of the earth. In retirement, Ed and Kay spent time away from the farm, traveling and enjoying the great outdoors with their family. Both were avid fishermen and have the stories to prove it. If you asked Ed, none of his fish got away. Ed and Kay had an amazing life filled with love, friendship, family, laughter, hard work and dedication. The best part about Ed and Kay is they were still holding hands up until Eds final day. That kind of love sums up Eds character and life more than any words. Please join us Thursday, September 26th at 1:30 pm for graveside services at Redmond Memorial Cemetery. A reception will follow at The Redmond Grange Hall. Ed was proceeded in death by his brother Homer Brown, sister Gladys Marlin and sister Ruth Brown. Ed is survived by his brother and sister in-law, Don and Kay Brown, Brothers, OR, his wife Kay Brown, 91, their four children: David Brown, Jackie Brown, Larry Brown, Patty Sanders all of Redmond, OR; grandchildren, Kim Sullivan, The Dalles, OR, Lisa Brown, Tualitin OR, Wade Brown, Tualitin OR, Haley Mazza, New York, NYand great grandchildren: Ethan, Kai and Eve Semlor, The Dalles, OR, Trysten Cox and Mason Powarczuk, Tualitin, OR and numerous nieces and nephews.
