Gloria Joy Riggs

Gloria Joy was born on July 24, 1938, in Toppenish, Washington. Her parents were Opal Martin and Clarence Watson. They were unable to raise her, and she was adopted at the age of two weeks old by Rev. Harvey and Gladys Brown Scheuerman. They lived in Vernonia, Oregon where Gloria was loved by all in her father's congregation. The Scheuerman's choose Gloria's name and their prayer was that she be a "Glory to God" and a joy to all people. In 1944 the family moved to Monmouth, Oregon where Gloria attended school graduating in 1956 from Central High School. She attended Merrett Davis Business College and married Terry J. Staats. Their children, Teri Lynn Williams, Chris Michael Staats, and Steven Greggory Staats, were born while the family lived in Keizer, Oregon. Gloria was a room mother, a cub scout leader, and picked berries with them in the summer. One of the saddest events in Gloria's life, was when the family lost Steve in an accident off the coast at DePoe Bay, Oregon in 1983. A highlight of Gloria's life was that she was reunited with both of her biological parents and their families, where she was loved and welcomed into their lives. In 1988 Gloria moved to Redmond, Oregon and really enjoyed living in central Oregon, where she made many new friends. She was a Certified Medical Assistant and worked at Bend Urology, and Bend Dermatology. In 2010 Gloria married Robert Riggs. They had known each other for many years thru their church and also discovered that they had attended the same summer church camp together, many years before. Gloria and Bob were married only three and a half years, due to Bob's health, but they truly loved each other, and had many wonderful times together. Gloria was predeceased by Gladys and Harvey Scheuerman, her son Steven Staats, Opal and Robert Gilbreath, Clarence Watson, and husband Robert Riggs. Survivors are: Teri Lynn and Richard Williams Chris and Karen Staats Douglas and Erica Riggs Stephanie Parker Grandchildren: Ryan and Bethany Staats Bethany and Jeff Steiert Jason and Heather Staats Ricky and Sarah Williams Kelsey and Cory Nystul Brad and Kelly Bates Camille and Caroline Riggs Brook and Kristine Parker Gloria also has 16 great-grandchildren Services will be held at the Shiloh Ranch church in Powell Butte, Oregon, at 1:00 pm on May 14, 2021
