Robert Lewis Fast

Robert “Bob” L. Fast, born November 30, 1941, in Hooker, Oklahoma, to Cuba and Otto Fast, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Hospice House in Bend, Oregon. He was surrounded by his wife Barbara, daughter,Liz, son, Tom and sister, Carolyn. Bob spent most of his childhood years in Kinsley,Kansas. He had 2 horses, Blondie, a Shetland and Cookie that he rode all over town. He graduated high school in Kinsley. His dad worked as a pipeline supervisor and he chose to live in Kinsley because it was halfway between the towns where his parents lived and his mom's parents lived. After graduation, Bob moved with his family to Ridgefield,Washington. When his family moved back to the Midwest, Bob stayed in Washington. He worked for a crude drug company until he went to college at Portland State. After graduation, Bob was hired by the State of Oregon. His job with the department of revenue lasted until his retirement. On July 28, 1973, Bob married Barbara Thorp in Great Falls, Montana. Together they shared 51 years of marriage filled with love, devotion to their children and the usual challenges of marriage.Bob’s family includes his daughter Elizabeth “Liz” from a previous marriage and his son Thomas. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren—Kelsey, Kylie, Ryan, Alex, Riley and Kinsley. Bob dedicated 32 years of service to the State of Oregon Department of Revenue. Early in his career, he worked in Salem but dreamed of living in Central Oregon. That dream became a reality when he moved his family to Bend and later settled on a scenic 40-acre property in Terrebonne with stunning mountain views. Bob always had a love of horses. On the "farm" he had a couple of quarter horses as well as sheep, chickens, pigs and cows. After retirement Bob and Barb found pleasure fishing on Lake Simtustus aboard their pontoon boat. Catching trout was fun and so was just relaxing. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Barbara; his daughter Liz, her wife Kari, his son Tom, his wife Emily and his sisters Carolyn and Pat; and his treasured grandchildren. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
