Betty Jo Ross

Betty Jo Ross passed peacefully into the arms of her savior Tuesday, March 3rd, in Yakima, Washington. Betty Jo, born Elizabeth Jo Waters, on October 6, 1925 in Salem, Oregon, was the eldest of four children born to Roderick and Leona Waters. Betty Jo grew up in Lakeview, Oregon, and graduated with a teaching degree from Marylhurst College. She took her first teaching position in Vale, Oregon where she met the love of her life, Ed Ross. They married in 1949 and began a family in 1951. In 1957 they moved to Bend, Oregon. In 1965, they moved to Redmond, Oregon, where Betty Jo taught and eventually worked as a bookkeeper, at the high school. Betty Jo was active in her church, and her faith was important to her. She delivered meals on wheels for many years, loved to sew for her children and grandchildren. She belonged to a quilting club, and made a multitude of beautiful quilts. She and Ed played pinochle often and passed that passion on to their children and grandchildren. Betty Jo and Ed loved to travel and were fortunate to be able to travel abroad during retirement She is survived by her six children, David (Wendy) of Yakima WA, Marie (Neil) Bishop of Bend OR, Jerry (Cindy) of Silverdale WA, Kenneth of Salem OR, Keith (Tami) of Redmond OR, and Steven (Brenda) of Stayton OR. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Roderick and Leona Waters, her brother Donald Waters, and her husband of 61 years, Edmond Ross. In her final months, the staff at Fieldstone Memory Care and Heartlinks Hospice were a great comfort to Betty Jo and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to Heartlinks or the Alzheimers Association. The funeral mass will be held in Redmond, Oregon at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Monday, March 9, 2015 The rosary will be at 10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am. Following the mass, Lunch will be served in the church hall. Internment 2:00 pm. at Deschutes Memorial Gardens in Bend, Oregon off South HWY 97.
