Dorothy Joan Moran Glad

Dorothy Joan Moran Glad, 79, of Portland, Oregon passed away at 3:00 a.m. Friday October 4th 2013. She was born on December 11th 1933 in Rushford, Minnesota to the late Henry and Mable Moran. During World War II they moved to Portland, Oregon on Willamette Boulevard where she attended Sitton Elementary School and Roosevelt High School. Dorothy then married Vern Owen Glad on November 11th 1953 who preceded her death on August 1st 1994. Surviving are her children Crystal Herberholz of Redmond, Oregon; Douglas Glad of Boring, Oregon; and Joseph Glad of Salem, Oregon. Also surviving are her grandchildren Stacie Anady, Phillip Bounds, Adam Herberholz, Torie Glad-Young, Joey Herberholz, Amanda Skinner, Hilary Glad, Sarah Herberholz, and Benjamin Glad. Dorothy had 12 great-grandchildren. Dorothy and Vern Glad lived in various places around the Portland, Oregon area settling in Linton, Oregon where they raised their children together. Dorothy worked for Meier & Frank Co. for more than ten years before leaving to work for her brother at Harveys Flowers in Hillsdale, Oregon. After he retired and sold the flower shop, she worked for Camas Flowers in Camas, Washington. In 1985, Dorothy and Vern retired to their beach house in Seaside, Oregon where she worked part-time for Astoria flowers in Astoria, Oregon. Dorothy resided here until 2005, before moving back to Portland, Oregon. Dorothy enjoyed floristry, crosswords, folk music, puzzles, and history. She took pleasure in traveling and visited Ireland, Rome and Italy, to name a few. She had a passion for genealogy and was involved with the Genealogical Forum of Oregon in Portland, Oregon since 1978. She traced her familys roots back to Ireland and recertified the Moran family crest; this was one of her greatest accomplishments. Please join us in a celebration of her life on October 13th 2013 at 3:00 p.m. (reception and hors doeuvres to follow) at the Cornelius Community Church in Cornelius, Oregon.
