Judith Diane Godfrey

Judith Diane Godfrey of Redmond, Oregon ~ died in peace ~ to rest with her Lord, on December ninth 2024, with her loving and devoted husband Bob by her side. Judy was the third child, born to Ralph and Pauline Heckman in Minneapolis ,Minnesota on February fifth, 1942. Her family (including her brothers Ronald and Harley) moved to Oregon to assist in the of the war effort; father Ralph building ships in the Portland area, and brothers enlisting; Ronald (Navy WW II) and Harley (Navy Korean War). Later the family was called to Oregon’s robust timber industry, settling in Gardiner, when Judy was just a young girl. She had an idyllic childhood playing in the old growth woods surrounding her home together with her beloved lifelong friends. As she became a young woman, Judy became a highly proficient piano player~often performing in school assemblies or church services. Judy was also a skilled archer (teaching the sport at Camp Easterseals in the summer months where she also was camp cook alongside her mother) and was a member/officer of many service organizations. When Judy as an adolescent her father was in a debilitating accident and as a result Judy and her mother stepped up to keep the family financially sound. Judy enthusiastically took a job as the local elementary school custodian (after school), whilst her mother became the school’s cafeteria cook. This selfless act of service to her family exemplifies the humble, diligent worker Judy was. As a result She was greatly admired by her friends, and the small knit community of Gardiner, for her loving kindness and devotion to her parents. Judy graduated from Reedsport High School earning a scholarship to attend Southern Oregon College for her outstanding academic achievements. On her summer break from college, Judy met Bob at a lake party in 1960 , where Bob thought “Judy was the prettiest girl there”. Bob immediately won Judy’s heart, and they were married a year later in 1961. Their daughter Kimberly was born in 1964, and the family welcomed their second daughter Kelly, born in 1970. Judy and Bob ran many automobile dealerships together in Oregon, had wonderful travel and fishing adventures, all whilst being ~devoted to and inseparable from~ each other for 65 years at the time of Judy’s passing. One of Judy’s greatest pleasures was homemaking for her family. She beautifully adorned many homes with an interior decorator’s instinct and flair, prepared countless delicious gourmet meals, and developed many beautiful flower gardens at every home they resided in. Judy enjoyed extensive travel to the Middle East and Europe, quilting, calligraphy, playing on her cherished baby grand piano, attending church services, spending time with her five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and most especially enjoyed being in the presence of her best friend “Bobbie" going on long country drives or just sitting together listening to music. Judy is survived by her loving husband Bob, her two children; Kimberly (Mark) Eberhard, Kelly Godfrey (John) Jenkins, her five grandchildren; Mackenzie, Madeline, Emily, Samantha, Howard, and her five great grandchildren; Hudson, Henry, Lola, Hazel and baby Calvin due in 2025.
